Jo Strømgren Kompani is coming to Perth International Arts Festival!
The Norwegian and celebrated Jo Strømgren Kompani is coming to Perth.
The Society portrays a collective of sworn coffee drinkers, utterly devoted to the rituals and elitism of the dark bean. When their harmony is broken by the discovery of a used tea bag hidden in their guarded sanctuary, loyalties are severely tested.
Created by Norway´s celebrated and highly original Jo Strømgren Kompani, this true theatre hybrid sees three multi-skilled actors indulge in a nonsensical language, masterful physical comedy, impromptu dance, intense French ballads and even lip-synching!!
This is a small play with big ideas that leaves you surprised, amused and even a little shell-shocked.!!
Company History
Jo Strømgren Kompani was founded in 1998 and has from its base in Bergen, Norway, grown to become one of the most established independent groups in Scandinavia. The company presents about 100 shows in 10-20 countries annually. Apart from specialising in nonsensical text, the style is characterised by a particular mix of dance and theatre, with puppet theatre, film and live music often added. The company operates through widespread networks and performs in both large national theatres and small alternative venues. Jo Strømgren also has a successful career as freelance choreographer, theatre director and playwright.
Language
This performance features nonsensical language. Jo Strømgren Kompani has created its own international niche through its long-term research on abstract text. Each production involves a completely new linguistic alias, inspired by a specific culture or region. The Company policy is to stimulate associative interpretations instead of forcing any particular options upon the audience. Worldwide success in 45 countries has proven this nonsensical language manifesto to be more than just a temporary funny idea. For all audiences: the performers do not even know themselves what is being said on stage. So please do not panic.
